“I understand that every family-building journey is unique. As situations are so different, getting clear, straightforward information and specialist advice can make a world of difference. That’s where I can help.”

Dr Stephen Elgey works primarily in:

    • IVF and fertility care.
    • Gynaecology.
    • Laparoscopy.

Dr Elgey knows first-hand how it feels to build a family the unconventional way. He and his partner used IVF to help create their family, so he understands not only the options available to you as a fertility specialist but also has personal insights into some of the experiences patients undergoing fertility treatments may encounter.

He began his career as a scientist in a genetics lab investigating infertility and pregnancy issues, but hung up his white coat to study medicine at the University of Queensland and work more directly with the people his work benefits. His scientific background gives him further insight into what we do in our laboratory and supplements his approaches to the care provided to you.

Dr Elgey’s practice at Ava Fertility and Reproductive Health encompasses a wide range of gynaecological conditions, including endometriosis management, pelvic floor issues, cosmetic gynaecology and complex laparoscopic surgery. His dedicated team are friendly and always ready to help with your care.

With his relaxed, yet careful approach, he will guide you through the options available to you with personalised attention and support. He is passionate about keeping abreast of the latest in options to help ensure you get the right treatment.

Dr Elgey is proud to offer care to all couples and individuals wanting to build a family, either with their partner or with the help of a donor or surrogate, and would welcome the opportunity to discuss your situation and options with you.

      • I grew up in… the northern Brisbane suburbs, riding my bike everywhere.
      • I start my day… hoping that my two youngest children are still asleep so I can get 30 minutes of ‘me’ time.
      • When I am not working… I’d love to be able to switch off my phone!
      • Most people don’t know that… the Great Wall of China can’t be seen from space. Really, it can’t.
      • When I was growing up, I wanted to be… able to see the Great Wall of China from space. Not happy when I found out that was never going to happen, so I decided to study medicine instead. Sorry, NASA.
      • My favourite holiday spot is… Yamba, NSW. Beautiful beaches for every occasion and not a traffic light in sight.
      • My greatest achievement is… I know this is clichéd, but having three great kids in a happy, stable family, despite all the pressures of life and work, is a pretty good achievement.
